• It's good to remember the PMBOK® Process Groups for reflecting the purposes of typical project management (sub) processes: The set of process groups includes the (linear and ideal) structure of "init", "plan", "execute" and "close" accompanied by the concurrent over-all-process "monitor and control". The structure of the classification by process groups is offered by myPmps in form of a seqential survey.
• The PMBOK® Process Groups collect project management processes which also belong to different Knowledge Areas. Hence the PMI® and his PMBOK® offers a cross classification for each project management process. The structure of the classification by knowledge areas is offered by myPmps in form a Conceptual Survey.
(V) Project Management Process Groups
The Process Groups are clusters of different project management processes: Each project management process is not only member of a knowledge area but fullfills also a more general purpose. Therefore these processes can be grouped by their knowledge areas or by their more general purposes:
Initiating Process Group
The Initiating Process Group
"... consists of those processes that facilitate the formal
authorization to start a new project or a project phase". The
main task of the processes is the generation of
of the project objectives ... including the reasons why a specific
project is the best alternative solution to satisfy the requirements".
These preliminary words contain also
"a basic description of the
project scope, the deliverables, project duration, and a forcast
of the resources for the organization's investment analysis".

Planning Process Groupy
The Planning Process Group consists of those processes, by which the multiple aspects
of the project management are planned. To make a long story short:
"the planning processes
develop the project management plan".

Executing Process Group

"... consits of those processes used to complete the work
defined in the project management plan to accomplish the project's requirements"

Monitoring And Controling Process Group
The Monitoring And Controling Process Group
"... consists of those processes performed to observe
project execution so that potential problems can be identified
in a timely manner and corrective action be taken,
when necessary, to control the execution of the project":
"They key benefit of this process group is that project performance is observed and measured regularly to identify variances from the project management plan."

Closing Process Group
The Closing Process Group constists of those processes
"... used to formally terminate all activities of a project
